Installing amplifier and subwoofer

If you have been reading up on my articles, then you will have a new in-dash media player and new speakers in your panels. So now we are ready for the next upgrade; amplifiers and subwoofers. These are as easy to install as everything else we have discussed and I will show you how.

At this point you should know that no matter what stereo equipment you choose it is always personal choice. Name brand, size, look, wattage, and sound are all the things one may look for while choosing a subwoofer. Just be sure that once you have chosen the sub you prefer that you also choose an amplifier with sufficient power for your woofer. Too much power can be harmful to your subwoofer, but so can too little power. Ask questions, learn: your salesman should be able to help you with this.

Ok so you have your woofer and amplifier picked out, now it is time for the install. This part may or may not be tricky but I will guarantee that if you want it to look as good as it sounds you will have to work for it. I am talking about the wires to be ran. Be sure you hide them well and that they will not be damaged or pinched or snagged on anything. This may require you to remove your seats or some inner trim in order to hide the wires properly. Before you start have a look to know where you will be running the cables.

For just the basic sub and amp install, an amplifier install kit is what I would recommend. It should come with your power cable w/inline fuse, a remote wire, a fuse, and the electrical connections so tape is not required. I have always found these kits to be handy and cost efficient. So go get one at your local electronics dealer. Or just buy the wire and tape to do it yourself, it is just not as professional looking.

Start by running your power wire w/inline fuse threw the fire wall of your vehicle (use existing holes for other things that already go threw the fire wall). Run the power all the way threw the wall and under your carpets and trim, to where you plan to have the amplifier sitting (commonly bolted to the subwoofer box). Do not cut any wire until all wires have been laid out to where they go! Power is the only wire threw the fire wall required so once complete the rest is inside.

For the next steps read this and the next paragraph before beginning. The RCA wire (came with kit) and the remote wire can be run at the same time. The RCA commonly connects in the rear of your player so can be connected at the same time as the remote and run the exact same to the amplifier. So in the next paragraph ‘remote wire’ and ‘RCA wire’ can be interchanged for directions to install.

Now run the remote wire (came with kit). This wire is commonly spliced into the power wire of your in-dash player. Doing so allows for easier install because this power wire is already factory threw your fuse box and ignition. You can wire it into your fuse and ignition separately yourself but it will be more difficult. Run the remote wire cleanly along with the power wire you just ran and take it to where your amplifier will be.

Ok with NO POWER going to the wires, use the install instructions that comes with the amplifier and connect all the wires as directed. The ground wire is usually short and goes from the amplifier directly to somewhere on the bare metal body of the vehicle. Find a spot. There is lots. Be sure all your connections are tight and properly connected. Once all wires are connected, attach the power to the battery and turn your system on. If done correctly, you will have power to all components and may now start to fine tune your sound using the dials and adjusters on the amplifier.

That was simple right? Ok maybe it was a little more effort then I described, but I am also unaware of the type of vehicle you may own. However, are you not glad you saved the money and did it yourself? The sound means more to your ears knowing it was done by you. Of course there is more components that may be added and I will discuss them in further articles. Keep reading.

Comfort and Durability Key Features for Acoustic Guitar Straps

guitar strapWhen you play a guitar, you should be able to concentrate on the music, not on trying to hold the guitar. If you always play sitting down, you don’t have to use a strap. But if you ever intend to play standing up, a good acoustic guitar strap is essential.

Guitar straps can be attached two different ways. First of all, your guitar should have a strap button on the bottom. That’s where one end of the strap will attach. The differences arise when attaching the other end of the strap. Some guitars have another button on the “heel” of the guitar—that’s where the neck attaches to the body. If your guitar has one already, then you are good to go. If not, you can install one yourself (or have it installed by a guitar technician). The other option is to tie the strap to the neck.

Acoustic guitar straps are made of many different materials, so you should have no trouble finding one that matches your preferences. There are many variations, but the most common straps basically come down to nylon or leather. If you want to get something more exotic, you can also find suede, fur, tweed, cotton and even poly webbing. The main goal is to find a strap that is both comfortable and durable. If you can’t find exactly the right strap, you can also get a completely unique strap custom made.

Acoustic guitar straps are sold under many different brands. In terms of durability and value for your money, the top three strap manufacturers are Gibson, Martin and Fender. Of course, you can also locate straps made by other manufacturers. There is no particular reason to choose one manufacturer over the other, as long as your strap is comfortable to wear and holds your instrument without failing.

Your local music shop should have a selection of straps for sale. You can find an even wider variety by shopping online music stores or even through auction sites like eBay.

Martin Acoustic Guitars

Out of the many brands of acoustic guitars, the Martin name certainly stands among the best. Quite a few excellent acoustic guitar models can be traced to the workshops of CF Martin and Company. Their deep tone and booming sound are part of what make Martin guitars distinctive.

Although their sound isn’t for everyone, many musicians prefer the power and richness that these instruments project. Guitars by Martin have seen a resurgence of popularity in recent years. One reason for this is their remarkable quality. Martin acoustic guitars actually seem to perform better as they age. Let’s take a look at some of the more popular models in the Martin line.

There are many different models available for musicians in different genres and at varying skill levels. One good example is the Martin LXM which is sometimes called the Little Martin. This instrument is designed specifically for beginners and travelers. Its smaller structure is perfect for traveling and also makes for easier playing by people who might not yet be ready to handle a larger guitar.

Another popular model is the Martin Custom D Classic acoustic guitar. This instrument is crafted from Sitka spruce and solid mahogany. The precise combination of these woods yields a strong sound that can project from the midst of a group. It also produces brilliant trebles and an overall smooth sound.

One very well-known model is the margin D28 dreadnought acoustic guitar. It is designed to produce both resonance and warmth in a perfectly blended volume. If you’re into more powerful and louder styles of music, then this is the Martin model for you.

Many famous musicians have popularized different models of Martin acoustic guitars. In his last live performance, Elvis Presley played a Martin D28. Eric Clapton also plays and collects Martin acoustic guitars.

You can always find these quality instruments available for sale at your local guitar shop. However, if you’re looking for real bargains you might want to check out an auction site like eBay. Wherever you purchase your guitar, make sure you also buy a good hard shell case to protect your investment.
