When you stop playing your guitar and want to keep it safe until next time, you have two basic options. You can use either a guitar stand or a guitar hanger. They both accomplish the same thing, that is, keeping your guitar out of harm’s way but still handy enough to start playing again quickly. Is there any reason to prefer one solution over the other?
Let’s look at guitar stands first. A stand is definitely convenient. It doesn’t take any special effort to place your guitar in a stand. Having your guitar in a stand also makes a nice style statement. It’s plain to see that you are into music when you have a guitar or two positioned in stands.
Guitar stands are normally made of aluminum or wood, but the important thing is that the stand is built to be stable. The stand should have properly spaced cushioning so your guitar doesn’t get damaged or scratched when you put it on the stand. The design and construction of the stand should make it easy to get the guitar out, but difficult to make the guitar fall out. Finding well-built guitar stands is normally not a problem. The main issue with using a guitar stand is floor space. You have to have enough space so that your guitar isn’t in the way.
An alternative for holding your guitar is the hanger. It is a good option for small spaces because it takes your guitar off the floor and puts in on the wall. Have a couple of guitars on the wall looks pretty good too. It might seem a little inconvenient having to lift the guitar into the hanger. However, it still accomplishes the goals of keeping your guitar safe and relatively accessible. And if you have children or pets racing through your living space, hangers are a really good idea.
